Curator's notes about Friedrich (+)
Caspar David Friedrich (September 5, 1774 - May 7, 1840) was a German Romantic painter known for his evocative landscapes that emphasize the relationship between nature and human emotion, playing a crucial role in the development of Romanticism in art. Notable works include "Wanderer above the Sea of Fog," "Woman in front of the Setting Sun," and "The Sea of Ice." Friedrich's artistic style is characterized by dramatic contrasts of light and shadow, a focus on the sublime, and an exploration of themes like solitude and introspection. He often incorporated his own philosophical beliefs into his landscapes, believing that nature was a reflection of the human soul and a means of exploring deeper existential themes.
This curated collection includes some of Friedrich's most famous and recognized artwork, as well as some lesser known pieces that we consider ideal for personal collectors. All framed art prints and canvas prints are created from high resolution source files of the original Friedrich paintings.
