Edward Hopper (July 22, 1882 - May 15, 1967) was an American realist painter known for his depictions of modern American life and architecture. His most iconic works include Nighthawks, Soir Bleu, New York Movie and Chop Suey. Hopper's artistic style is characterized by strong use of light and shadow, with an emphasis on solitude and the human experience in cinematic urban settings. Throughout his career, Hopper faced challenges with recognition and financial stability, but he ultimately gained acclaim and is now regarded as one of the most important American artists of his time.
