1841-1919
Pierre-Auguste Renoir (February 25, 1841 - December 3, 1919) was a French painter and a prominent figure in the Impressionist movement. Notable works include "Place de la Trinité," "Dance at Le Moulin de la Galette," and "The Swing." Renoir's artistic style is characterized by vibrant colors, soft brushwork, and a focus on the effects of light and atmosphere, often depicting scenes of leisure and social interaction. He contributed significantly to the development of Impressionism by emphasizing the importance of color and light in capturing fleeting moments. Later in life, Renoir continued to paint despite suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, adapting his technique, and able to still grasp a brush, but requiring an assistant to place it in his hand.
