Curator's notes about Van Gogh (+)
Vincent Willem van Gogh (March 30, 1853 - July 29, 1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who created approximately 2100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of them in the last two years of his life. Notable works include Starry Night, Sunflowers, Almond Blossom, Irises, Café Terrace at Night and Wheat Field with Crows. During his lifetime, only one of his paintings is known to have sold, The Red Vineyard. He had a deep fascination with Japanese art and culture, collecting woodblock prints that inspired his use of color and composition. His paintings were beginning to gain attention when he died from a self-inflicted gunshot at age 37. He gained widespread recognition after his death, now considered one of the most famous and influential figures in Western art.
This curated collection includes some of Van Gogh's most famous and recognized artwork, as well as some lesser known pieces that we consider ideal for personal collectors. All framed art prints and canvas prints are created from high resolution source files of the original Van Gogh paintings.
