About Parliament, Setting Sun
Parliament, Setting Sun (1903, Le Parlement, soleil couchant) by Claude Monet is from his series Views of London (Vues de Londres), which capture his passion for England's capital city with sights like Charing Cross Bridge, Waterloo Bridge, and the Houses of Parliament. This painting depicts the windowless silhouette of the Houses of Parliament and the Thames River cast in purple and blue hues by a crimson red setting sun. His largest series of paintings at the time, numbering almost one hundred, Vues de Londres shows Monet fully exploring his Impressionist style with stunning yet momentary atmospheric effects of nature.
