Princess from the Land of Porcelain ☲ Whistler ☱ Art Print
Rose and Silver: The Princess from the Land of Porcelain (1864) by James McNeill Whistler depicts a European woman wearing a kimono in a Western manner, holding a fan, standing amidst numerous Asian art objects, including a rug, Japanese folding screen and a large decorative porcelain vase. There are influences of Japanese woodblock maker Kitagawa Utamaro in the painting, as well as 18th-century French chinoiserie. When the portrait was completed, the model's father refused to purchase it, and Whistler's large signature scared away another would-be buyer. This may have led Whistler to develop his later butterfly-style signature. The painting would eventually find a home in a dining room filled with Kangxi ceramics with matching decor chosen by Whistler himself, known as The Peacock Room.

Art prints are created from a giclée print on archival heavyweight paper that can be mounted in a frame. Different paper finishes allow you to customize the appearance: smooth paper maintains detail and color; textured paper slightly softens color with a traditional paper finish; and resin coated paper slightly deepens color adding a semi-gloss finish. Framed prints do not come with protective glass / glazing, to showcase the paper and reduce light reflection (it is available upon request).
