The Dream ☱ Rousseau ☷ Art Print
The Dream (1910, Le Rêve) by Henri Rousseau is one of more than 25 jungle scenes he painted. It is a surreal portrait of Yadwigha, Rousseau's Polish mistress from his youth, lying naked on a divan. She gazes over a landscape of lush jungle foliage and lotus flowers, listening to a snake charmer playing the flute, surrounded by animals including birds, monkeys, an elephant, a lion and lioness, and a snake. An interpretation offered by Rousseau is that it depicts a woman reclining on a couch in Paris, dreaming she is in the jungle. Suspecting that some viewers did not understand the painting, he wrote a poem to accompany it, Inscription pour Le Rêve:
Yadwigha in a beautiful dream, Having fallen gently to sleep, Heard the sounds of a reed instrument, Played by a well-intentioned [snake] charmer. As the moon reflected, On the rivers [or flowers], the verdant trees, The wild snakes lend an ear, To the joyous tunes of the instrument.

Art prints are created from a giclée print on archival heavyweight paper that can be mounted in a frame. Different paper finishes allow you to customize the appearance: smooth paper maintains detail and color; textured paper slightly softens color with a traditional paper finish; and resin coated paper slightly deepens color adding a semi-gloss finish. Framed prints do not come with protective glass / glazing, to showcase the paper and reduce light reflection (it is available upon request).
Giclée printed with aqueous pigment inks to resist fading for over 100 years
