About View of the Seine
View of the Seine (1883) by Georges Seurat is one of about seventy oil studies on small wood panels, which he called croquetons (little sketches), he made at the beginning of his career. The durable boards were easily transported and held, making them ideal for painting outdoors. This is among the earliest of the studies that he made along the Seine on the outskirts of Paris, where fishermen cast their lines amid commercial barges and industrial smokestacks.

- Float frames are ⅝″ wide viewed from the front, and 1⅞″ deep; with a visible gap ("float") between the frame and canvas of ~¼″.
